Phrasal verbs are very common in English, especially in more informal contexts. They are made up of a verb and a particle or, sometimes, two particles. The particle often changes the meaning of the verb.
English learners find phrasal verbs challenging because:
the meanings of phrasal verbs can change depending on the context and the particles that are used, and
phrasal verbs are often idiomatic, and their meanings cannot be deduced from the meanings of their individual parts.


What is a homonym?
The definition of a homonym is “one of two or more words spelled and pronounced alike but different in meaning.” Just to confuse things a little more, homonyms can be broken down into two categories: homophones and homographs.
