This module develops students’ reading comprehension skills through the exploration of academic, literary, and journalistic texts. Students learn and apply essential reading strategies, including skimming, scanning, identifying main ideas, and making inferences, to enhance understanding and interpretation of written materials. The course also examines the role of vocabulary, text structure, discourse, and spoken language features in constructing meaning for 2nd year LMD students. Emphasis is placed on critical thinking, argument evaluation, and effective response to texts, enabling learners to become autonomous, strategic, and confident readers in both academic and real-world contexts.

WRITTEN EXPRESSION

This module is designed to help second-year university students develop and refine their academic writing skills in English. Through a structured and practical approach, students learn how to write well-organized essays, craft strong thesis statements, use appropriate transitional devices, and apply coherence and cohesion techniques effectively. The module also covers various types of essays, paragraph structure, summarising and paraphrasing strategies, and the correct use of punctuation. By the end of the course, students will be equipped with the tools needed to express their ideas clearly, logically, and persuasively in written form.
