Instructor: IBBOU AMINA, PhD
Status: Lecturer and Researcher

1. Course Description

Banking and Insurance Law is a professional and applied course designed for Master 1 students specializing in Banking and Insurance Finance.

The course introduces students to the legal and regulatory framework governing banking and insurance activities in Algeria. It aims to help students understand how legal rules shape financial institutions, banking operations, insurance contracts, customer protection, risk management, supervision, and financial stability.

The course is taught in English as a Medium of Instruction (EMI). English is therefore used as the main language for lectures, explanations, terminology, classroom activities, case studies, and assessments. However, the course remains fundamentally a law and finance course, not an English-language course.

Because students are studying the subject in a foreign language, particular attention will be given to financial and legal terminology. French and Arabic equivalents may occasionally be provided to facilitate conceptual understanding, particularly when dealing with Algerian legislation.

2. General Course Objective

The main objective of this course is to enable students to understand, interpret and apply the main legal principles governing banking and insurance activities in Algeria.

By the end of the course, students should be able to move from the legal rule to the financial practice and understand how legislation affects the activities of banks, financial institutions, insurance companies and their customers.
