Introduction to Operation Research

Operations research, often shortened to the initialism OR, is a discipline that deals with the development and application of analytical methods to improve decision-making. Employing techniques from other mathematical sciences, such as modeling, statistics, and optimization, operations research arrives at optimal or near-optimal solutions to decision-making problems. Because of its emphasis on practical applications, operations research has overlapped with many other disciplines, notably industrial engineering. Operations research is often concerned with determining the extreme values of some real-world objective: the maximum (of profit, performance, or yield) or minimum (of loss, risk, or cost). Originating in military efforts before World War II, its techniques have grown to concern problems in a variety of industries. 

this module is intended for the second year undergraduate students in Economics Sciences. It aims to give them skills to built a linear programming model from an economic problem within an organization. Furthermore, the student should be able to find an optimum solution in case of maximization profits  or minimization costs through using graphical solution or the Simplex Method. Besides, the optimum solution can be determined by the Dual Model in some cases. 

Students must have skills in General Mathematics, especially in the resolution of numerical functions and matrix calculation.

Le management est le processus de planification, d'organisation, de direction et de contrôle des ressources (humaines, financières, matérielles) d'une organisation en vue d'atteindre ses objectifs de manière efficace et efficiente. C'est l'ensemble des activités et des pratiques qui permettent de coordonner les efforts de l'ensemble de l'organisation pour maximiser l'utilisation des ressources et obtenir les résultats souhaités.

Il consiste à prendre des décisions, à établir des plans, à organiser des ressources, à diriger des équipes et à surveiller les performances pour garantir que les objectifs de l'organisation sont atteints de la manière la plus efficiente possible. Le management est essentiel pour toutes les formes d'organisations, qu'il s'agisse d'entreprises, d'organisations à but non lucratif, de gouvernements ou d'institutions. Il englobe un large éventail de compétences et de fonctions, et il est au cœur de la prise de décision et de la gestion au sein d'une organisation.

Le management d’une entreprise est la mise en place des moyens humains et matériels pour atteindre ses objectifs. Il est lié à l’idée de gestion et de pilotage  réalisé au sein de l’entreprise ou une partie unitaire de celle-ci. Lorsqu’il est associé à l’entreprise toute entière on peut en général le lier à la fonction de direction.
