In biological anthropology, digital tools now store human remains as images or 3D models. These “digital remains” raise ethical questions about consent, privacy, and cultural sensitivity. Anthropology asks: who owns this data, and how should it be protected?

Multimodal anthropology uses film, photography, podcasts, and digital tools in research. These methods let anthropologists represent culture in new ways, beyond traditional writing. It opens research to wider audiences.

Anthropology studies how identities overlap, such as gender, class, race, and sexuality. Intersectionality shows that people can face multiple forms of inequality at once, shaped by culture and power relations.

Forensic anthropology involves the application of anthropological techniques to legal investigations, helping to identify individuals and determine the cause of death by analyzing human remains. Forensic anthropologists collaborate closely with law enforcement, utilizing methods such as skeletal analysis, dental records, and DNA testing to provide critical information in criminal cases. Their expertise plays a vital role in solving crimes by identifying victims, determining their time of death, and assisting in legal proceedings.

Spatial anthropology explores how different cultures perceive and interact with space, examining the relationship between environment and cultural practices. It focuses on how spaces are organized and used within societies, considering factors such as cultural norms, environmental conditions, and social hierarchy. By studying how different communities conceptualize and utilize space, spatial anthropology provides valuable insights into the cultural and social structures that shape human interactions and the organization of physical spaces.

III. Rites of Passage
Rites of passage are ceremonies that mark important transitions in a person’s life, such as birth, puberty, marriage, and death. These rituals help individuals navigate significant life changes while reinforcing social roles and community bonds. By studying rites of passage, anthropologists gain insight into how different cultures structure social integration and collective identity. Examples of rites of passage include coming-of-age ceremonies, weddings, and funerals, each symbolizing a pivotal moment in an individual’s life and their connection to the community.

II. Historical Anthropology
Historical anthropology combines anthropological analysis with historical research to explore the social and cultural changes in past societies. By examining how past events, traditions, and interactions have shaped present social structures, historical anthropology provides a deeper understanding of human behavior over time. Unlike traditional history, which often focuses on political and economic events, historical anthropology integrates cultural analysis with historical data, emphasizing the role of human social behavior in shaping societies.
